Fiji Ferry Schedules: How to Check Current Services

Plan your trip

Fiji does not have one permanent nationwide passenger-ferry timetable. Routes are operated by different companies, and departure times can change with timetable periods, weather, sea conditions, vessel availability and demand. Always treat the operator’s current dated timetable and your booking confirmation as authoritative.

Mamanuca and Yasawa resort transfers

South Sea Cruises operates resort-transfer services from Port Denarau to destinations in the Mamanuca and Yasawa island groups. Its current operator page says services run daily, with some islands receiving more than one service per day. The company publishes dated transfer timetables and may issue temporary service advisories or surcharges.

Yasawa Flyer connections

Yasawa Adventures Fiji, part of the South Sea Cruises Group, publishes the dated Yasawa Flyer timetable and service advisories. Its schedule page currently describes a daily northbound departure from Port Denarau and an afternoon return, but travellers should check the live page for their exact date instead of relying on a time copied into an article.

Other inter-island routes

Services linking Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Ovalau, Kadavu, Lomaiviti, Lau and other islands are not covered by the Port Denarau resort-transfer timetable. Operators and government-supported franchise runs can change by route and month. Confirm the current operator, port, passenger rules and sailing date directly before making accommodation or flight connections.

What to verify before booking

  • The timetable is valid for your actual travel date, not merely the current season.
  • Your departure port and island landing or tender arrangements match the booking.
  • Check-in closes early enough for baggage and passenger processing.
  • Your luggage, surfboard, dive equipment or other oversized items are accepted and any fee is confirmed.
  • The return service works with your flight, but includes a sensible disruption buffer.
  • The operator has your current phone and email details for weather or service alerts.

Do not build a tight flight connection around a ferry

Sea conditions and operational changes can delay or suspend services. Avoid a same-day connection with little margin, especially before an international flight. Reconfirm shortly before travel and check the operator’s conditions of carriage and travel-insurance requirements.

Ferry, seaplane or small plane?

Many Mamanuca and some Yasawa resorts can also be reached by seaplane or helicopter. Air transfers are faster and offer views of the reefs, but they cost more and usually have tighter luggage limits. Scheduled boats carry more luggage and suit travellers who prefer a slower, cheaper connection.

For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and other outer islands, compare the ferry with a domestic flight; see the inter-island flights guide for how air connections are booked.

What the travel day looks like

Ask whether your transfer includes a pickup from Nadi or Denarau hotels, and how early you need to check in at Port Denarau. Some island resorts do not have a jetty, so guests may be transferred to a small boat for the last stretch and step off near the beach; keep phones and documents in a dry bag.

Open water between island groups can be choppy. If you are prone to seasickness, sit low and near the middle of the vessel, look at the horizon, and ask a pharmacist or doctor about medication before travel.

Longer domestic sea routes

Routes linking Viti Levu with Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Ovalau or Kadavu can take many hours, and some sail overnight. Book the night before and after these sailings close to the port, and have a backup plan in case a departure is moved.

Building ferries into your itinerary

If your international flight lands late, plan the first ferry leg for the next morning, and return to Viti Levu the day before an international departure rather than the same afternoon.

A few days before travel, check the operator’s dated timetable for your exact date, the port check-in time and how the operator will contact you about weather or service changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one ferry timetable for all of Fiji?

No. Different operators run different routes and each publishes its own dated timetable. Use the operator’s current schedule and your booking confirmation.

Where do Mamanuca and Yasawa resort transfers leave from?

South Sea Cruises resort transfers and the Yasawa Flyer depart from Port Denarau. Check the timetable for your exact date, as times can change.

Can I take a ferry and an international flight on the same day?

It is risky. Sea conditions can delay or suspend sailings, so leave a generous buffer or spend the night on Viti Levu before an international departure.
